Coconut Blossom Sugar
What‘s the difference between cane sugar and coconut blossom sugar?
White cane sugar has lots of calories but zero nutrients. No vitamins, minerals or fiber is left. As such, it could be described as “empty calories” that do more harm than good to a human body. Unfortunately, the food industry adds cane sugar to the majority of products. At Naturally PAM we decided not to use it.
Coconut blossom sugar also has a lower glycaemic index than white cane sugar.
What is the glycaemic index?
The glycaemic index measures the effect of a carbohydrate-containing food on blood sugar levels. The higher the value, the faster the food causes blood sugar levels to rise.
As soon as blood sugar spikes, the body releases the hormone insulin, in order to lower the blood sugar level. This may favor the storage of fat and might lead to food cravings.
What does controlled organic cultivation mean?
All our products come from organic farming. This means they are certified for their organic quality. The entire supply chain is regularly monitored and checked to the highest quality standards.
How do I dispose of the packaging?
We have used a compostable material for the Organic Coconut Sugar packaging. It is a foil made from cellulose. The outer layer is made from Skandinavian forestry, the inner layer from sugar cane and potato starch.
The label is made of a paper-like material made from agricultural residues such as leaves and is also compostable.
Sadly, the organic waste regulations currently prohibit the disposal of compostable packaging with organic waste. We hope that garbage disposal management will continue to evolve in the future, as our foil should theoretically be disposed of with the organic waste. Under current regulations, it must go into the yellow (plastic packaging) bin, as the German waste management system currently deals with compostable packaging in the same way as plastic foil. We hope this will change soon.
Why is the packaging more environmentally friendly?
The packaging is based on organic materials, is plastic-free, and made from sustainable raw materials. That means the packaging was produced without fossil fuels, which is one of the main problems with traditional plastic packaging.
